Welcome to my world! My name is Tony Flanders, and I’m interested in almost everything, from archaeology to astrophysics, Josquin des Prez to Janis Joplin, and Plato to Piketty. But much as I enjoy book learning, my deepest satisfaction comes from experiencing nature firsthand — by walking and looking around during the day and gazing out into the depths of the universe at night
I especially love mountains because of their grandeur and endless variety. Here’s a picture that I took a few years ago in California’s Sierra Nevada range. The glow in the lower left comes from the city of Fresno, some 50 miles away across the most rugged mountain range in the Lower 48.
